Assessment Before Return to Sport
Pain relief alone does not always mean the body is ready.
Returning to sport too quickly may expose the recovering area to demands it has not yet rebuilt tolerance for. Sports rehabilitation should consider movement quality, strength, control, load tolerance and the requirements of the specific activity.
Assessment may consider range of motion, muscle strength, balance, movement patterns, task-specific control and the patient's response to progressive exercise, alongside diagnosis and relevant medical advice.
Sports physiotherapy may focus on:
βMobility and range of motion
βStrength and muscular control
βBalance and stability
βProgressive load tolerance
βFunctional and sport-specific movement
βHome exercise and self-management guidance
